Field Trip and Final Project Info

I just got word from our coordinator that our Field work proposal has been approved by the VP-Academics. Letters to parents, itinerary details are now in the dropbox location or at this link. The cost is P3100, inclusive of transportation, speakers, venues and meals. This is for payment is on April 10 at the Accounting Office. ( Let me know ASAP if you can not meet this deadline). The field work will also replace the class meeting on April 19.

The field trip is an opportunity to learn and experience sustainable agriculture. Student groups, with 3-5 members, are expected to produce the following outputs as their final requirements for the class:

1. ) 5 min AVP with the goal of getting the target audience to engage into Sustainable agriculture.
2.) A website designed with the same social marketing goal as #1.
3.) A 1 page, back-to-back brochure design with the same social marketing goal as #1.

I will be looking specifically for the strength and cohesiveness of the message as I have done in the billboard and storyboard simulations.

Should you be a student that cannot join the fieldwork for some reason, you are expected to group together with other students of like situation and produce the same outputs considering one of the following topics instead of sustainable agriculture:

1.) The impact of plastic waste.
2.) Using LPG instead of gasoline for vehicles
3.) Making a sustainable house.

All groups are expected to embed their AVPs(#1) to be in embedded in the website (#2). A link to this blog entry at www.earthwatching.tk is also expected in the website. The brochure will be submitted as a softcopy pdf file in the dropbox location. The finals are expected by 11:59pm of April 23. Work will be discussed on April 26 meeting.

Sustainability Insights from Slumdog Millionaire

I finally got to watch Slumdog Millionaire last Friday. Wow! It was a very interesting movie. It was also very sobering because you know there is some truth to it. My wife watched it with a heavy heart as she remembered the short time she was in India. The scene where Aravind was blinded by the syndicate leader, in order to increase their revenue, was of particular interest to her. She remembered the beggars in Calcutta who would cut off their hands in order to earn money.

On my end, I felt the injustice to the poor while the wealth was with the rich. A lot of it is really caused by selfishness in our society. I was thinking that without Jesus, these folks really had no hope. True transformation comes from actions rooted in the liberating faith coming from Jesus. Actions are always the fruit of one's faith. If the actions are faulty, then there must be something wrong with one's belief system or worldview. If there is oppression, then the individuals of a culture must espouse a world view contrary to the justice of Jesus. If, as a result of examining yourself, you find that you have an anti-Christian world view, you can always ask Jesus to take over the throne of your life. Then you will see a transformation of your thoughts and actions.

To end this entry, I embedded a video of a choreography of Jai Ho performened in Season 5 of So You Think You Can Dance. May you be victorious!
